Tunnel Beaches

A network of hand carved tunnels leading to unique sheltered beaches and tidal victorian bathing pool. Learn how local entrepreneurs developed the tunnels and pools, and transformed Ilfracombe from a small fishing village into a popular seaside tourist resort.

The Verity Statue
Verity is a stainless steel and bronze statue created by Damien Hirst. The 20.25-metre (66.4 ft) tall sculpture stands on the pier at the entrance to the harbour in Ilfracombe, Devon, looking out over the Bristol Channel towards South Wales.

Town Centre

Many of the buildings in the town centre date from the 19th century and it remains refreshingly free of the chains that make other towns exactly like everywhere else. Most of the shops are independent retailers and some have been in the same family for generations. You will find food retailers, banks and building societies, chemists, clothes and homeware shops that will cater for your retail needs.

Ilfracombe Harbour

Nowhere beats Ilfracombe Harbour on a sunny day!

Enjoy fish & chips on the small, but sandy beach or grab yourself an ice-cream and take in the views towards the Bristol Channel and soak up the vibrant seaside culture.

There are lots of independent shops scattered about and some fantastic little tearooms serving delicious cream teas.
For the more adventurous you could catch one of the many boats for a tour of the stunning North Devon coastline.

Fore Street

Fore Street is one of Ilfracombe's oldest roads and is an absolute gem of a find for tourists who are looking for a great food and drink experience.
The road which leads from the High Street to the harbour is the home to many of the town's great eateries ranging from tapas to French and a la carte to fish. We are especially lucky to have the Michelin Starred restaurant Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room also!
At the bottom of Fore Street you will stumble across two of the towns oldest, cosiest pubs The George & Dragon and The Prince of Wales.
